Biography / History
John Wilson, a resident of Madison and Estill Counties, Kentucky, was a captain in the Eighth Regiment of Kentucky Volunteers.
Scope and Content
These papers are the military records kept by John Wilson during the civil war. Materials include orders and commands, correspondences, receipts, muster rolls, registers of men and equipment, and monthly reports relating to the Eighth Regiment. Information concerns the daily operations, living conditions, and activities of the brigade. Several orders are supplied by the Headquarters Fourth Division, Army of the Ohio. Considerable detail concerning individual soldiers, such as their rank, civilian occupations, date and place of enlistment, deaths, and desertions, may be obtained from these records. A few declaration of enlistment documents are also included.
