- Biography / History
- William Tecumsah Sherman (1820-1891) was a Union general during the Civil War known for his destructive march across Georgia in late 1864. In 1861 he served as a brigadier general under Robert Anderson in the Department of the Cumberland. Sherman succeeded Anderson as the commander of the Department in October of 1861.
