Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- The Northside Neighborhood Association was officially formed in 1961 as Lexington, Kentucky's first historic neighborhood. They define themselves as "a place where history and community meet". The Northside Neighborhood encompasses everything between Newtown Pike and Limestone Street, and Second Street and the Beltline Railway. Inside of these boundaries lay some of Lexington's historic micro neighborhoods such as Gratz Park, Fayette Park, Hampton Court, Mulberry Hill, Elsmere Park, and the street corridors West Second and West Third Streets. The streets of North Broadway and South Limestone are lined with historic homes and buildings on both sides, showcasing some of Lexington's historic architecture. This neighborhood is also home to Transylvania University, founded in 1780 as the 16th college in the United States.
