- Biography / History
- Benjamin Sebastian (1745-1834) was a lawyer practicing in Lousiville, Kentucky as of 1785. He served as a delegate to the constitutional convention in 1792 and as a judge on the Kentucky Court of Appeals from 1792 until 1806. He resigned due to investigations into his involvement with the Spanish Conspiracy to annex the western states.
- Scope and Content
- The Benjamin Sebastian papers (dated 1762-1803; 0.37 cubic feet; 2 boxes) contain correspondence, receipts, land grants, and materials pertaining to Sebastian's role in the Church of England. The materials document Sebastian's purchase of land; his relationship with Alex Breckinridge and Robert Breckinridge; his role within in the Church of England; and his expenses while living in what would eventually become the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
