- Biography / History
- Frank Snow Parrigin (1884-1981) was born in Kentucky to Abel B. Parrigin (1852-1928) and Vie I. Snow (1864-1926). Parrigin was a civil engineer; he helped build railroad tracks, sewer lines, and city sidewalks in Kentucky and Florida over the course of his career. He was married three times; his first wife was Rachel F. Hays (1886-1984) and they had two children together, Eloise (1909-1988) and Emily (1919-2002). They divorced around 1940, as by 1941, Parrigin married Mary Ann Bradley (1896-1974). Parrigin and Bradley divorced sometime later and in 1964, Parrigin married a third time to Ada Catherine Ross (1901-1974), whom he remained married to until her death. Parrigin lived most of his life in Kentucky, however in the 1920s he relocated his family to Panama Beach, Florida for work before returning to Kentucky by the 1930s.
- American Letters collector Wade Hall (1934-2015) was a native of Union Springs, Alabama. Starting in 1962, he lived in Louisville, where he taught English and chaired the English and Humanities/Arts programs at Kentucky Southern College and Bellarmine University. He also taught at the University of Illinois and the University of Florida. He held degrees from Troy State University (B.S.), the University of Alabama (M.A.), and the University of Illinois (Ph.D.). He served for two years in the U.S. Army in the mid-fifties. Dr. Hall was the author of books, monographs, articles, plays, and reviews relating to Kentucky, Alabama, and Southern history and literature. His most recent books include A Visit with Harlan Hubbard; High Upon a Hill: A History of Bellarmine College; A Song in Native Pastures: Randy Atcher's Life in Country Music; and Waters of Life from Conecuh Ridge.
- Scope and Content
- The Frank S. Parrigin photograph album (dated 1912-1957, undated; 0.14 cubic feet; 1 box) comprises a photograph album that documents the career and life of Frank Parrigin in Kentucky and Florida in the twentieth century. The photographs show the projects completed by Parrigin over the course of his career, including, dams, sidewalks, sewer lines, and sewage systems and tanks. There are also photographs of Frank's family and friends, showing his childhood with his siblings, his children, and close friends he had during the course of his life. There is a typed note included with the album that details some of the contents of the album, along with Parrigin's views on his life and his legacy.
- The Frank S. Parrigin photograph album is part of the Wade Hall Collection of American letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
