- Scope and Content
- The Engineer aviation battalion photographs (dated 1945, undated; 0.01 cubic feet; 26 photographs) comprises pictures that document Japan at the end of World War II. The images depict ruins from battles, the damage done to buildings and shrines, how locals are continuing to live in those areas, and glimpses of Allied occupation. Two images show the surrender of Japanese forces in the Ryukyu Islands by Lieutenant General Toshiro Nomi and acceptance by Allied forces.
- The Engineer aviation battalion photographs collection is part of the Wade Hall Collection of American Letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
