It's an old axiom among the thoroughbred fraternity to H W I L D C A T S H
never count even the lamest horse out of the race until
the stretch drive is completed and the official result posted VERSUS
on the board. And that’s exactly the "rule of thumb”
that might easily be applied to today`s llomecoming bat-
tle between the Kentucky \Vilclcats and Vanderbilt Gom-
modores.
The 29th meeting in one of the South’s oldest gridiron
races comes again at the “stretch drive" point in the cam- II C O M M O D O R E S ll
paign and features 1956 editions that have been bothered
all season long by injuries of varying degrees. And neither
of the "darkhorses” can be figured to finish completely
out of the money, so to speak, in the torrid race for the
Southeastern Conference roses.   I0!  
Both Kentucky and Vandy are well placed (currently
tied for sixth in the SEC standings with .500 records in
conference play) for finishes in the first division of the
league, but winning today’s encounter is a “lH1lSt” to each STOLL FIELD
