Collection Overview

Biography / History
George and Orvill Anderson were sons of Thomas Anderson. They operated the Grahamton Milling Company in Meade County, Kentucky, and the Thomas Anderson and Company (auctioneers and commission merchants) in Louisville, Kentucky.
Scope and Content
The Anderson family papers contain the personal and business correspondence of George Washington Anderson and family, legal documents regarding cemetery plots, and genealogical research. The majority of the collection comprises letters between G.W. Anderson and his wife, Eleanor, though many letters are also from Mrs. R. Anderson, George Anderson's mother; his children; and other relatives. The business correspondence relates to the Grahamton Manufacturing Company in Meade County, Kentucky. Notable letters include one from Henry Clay to G. W. Anderson offering him condolences after the death of one of his children. Also included in the collection are documents regarding family plots in Cave Hill Cemetery in Louisville, Kentucky, and an Episcopal cemetery in Lexington, Kentucky, as well as genealogical research on the Anderson family history.
