Collection Overview
- Biography / History
- The University of Kentucky is the flagship, land-grant university for the Commonwealth of Kentucky located in Lexington, Kentucky. It was established by an Act of the Legislature in 1865 as the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky University (now Transylvania University). In 1878, the Legislature split A&M College from Kentucky University, and it became State College and began developing into a university. In 1908, the Legislature changed the name from State College to State University. In 1916, the Legislature again changed the name from State University to University of Kentucky.
- The University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center collected phonograph records relating to the University of Kentucky throughout the twentieth and twenty-first centuries.
- Scope and Content
- The University of Kentucky Libraries Special Collections Research Center. University of Kentucky Phonograph Records Collection University of Kentucky Phonograph Records Collection (dated 1944-1981, undated; 2.5 cubic feet, 68 items) consists of 68 published and unpublished phonograph records and transcription discs that document University of Kentucky (UK) radio and extension programs; UK administrator and alumni speeches, addresses, and interviews; UK music and athletics; Kentucky industries; and Kentucky towns and regions. UK radio (WBKY) or extension programs include "Visiting Kentucky Industries," "Community Kentucky," "Kentucky Communities," and "From These Halls."
