     Historical Note
On September 14, 1922, forty-two women chartered the Midway Woman’s Club in Midway, Woodford County, Kentucky. Their primary objective was civic improvement. In March 1923, the club joined the General Federation of Women’s Clubs (GFWC) and adopted the slogan, For the Good of Our Community. Children and community beautification projects were focal points of the club’s early endeavors (1922-1935). Midway club women established a free community library (1935), participated in sponsored community improvement programs (1948), and established the Woodford County Health Unit (1955). The club received monetary awards and certificates of appreciation from the 1950s to the present for its efforts. The Midway Woman’s Club continues to promote civic improvement by contributing to local efforts and organizations including Woodford County Habitat for Humanity, Midway 4-H, Midway Recreation, Kentucky Educational Television, Woodford County Literacy Council, Midway Free Library, Midway Cemetery Fund, Midway Elementary School, and Midway College Scholarships. Meetings are held at 7 p.m. the first Thursday of each month, September through May. The clubhouse is located at 233 South Gratz Street, Midway, Kentucky 40347.
