Scope and Contents
The Joseph William Rodgers series contains material relating to The industrialization of American bookbinding; a study of the replacement of hand processes by machinery, written in 1937. It is unclear whether or not this dissertation is for a master's degree or for doctoral work. In 1938 the dissertation was then reworked into a book.
The series also contains correspondence documenting Rodgers' desire to have his work reviewed by Dr. Lehmann-Haupt. Further correspondence discusses reviews of Rodgers' work and other articles written by Rodgers.

Introduction to the Woodcut of the 17th Century, 1929-1977
Scope and Contents
The Introduction to the Woodcut of the 17th Century series contains several complete drafts and parts of draft of the work. An Introduction to the Woodcut of the Seventeenth Century is an introductory work into the art of woodcutting and illustration. Originally intended to be a comprehensive study, that idea was abandoned by the author, as he found it to be too extensive to be one project. Ssome of the drafts have different titles as they were tentative at the time. Also included within this part of the collection are reference notes, call slips to some of the reference works used and also funding and permissions required to legally publish the book. In addition, this part of the collection contains a variety of photographs of original woodcuts, many of which were used in the book.

Scope and Contents
This part of the collection include notes, photographs, negatives and reference materials relating to the illustrations of the work. In order to write this work, Lehmann-Haupt contacted 24 repositories, located in the United States and around the world, that owned many of the rare books containing the woodcut images that he sought to study and include in his book. Some of these respositories included The New York Public Library, Library of Congress, The British Library, The Royal Library and The Staedel Museum Print Room. This part of the collection contains very detailed notes and correspondence regarding the work as well. These organizations took photographs of them, often alongside a ruler to show the size of the original and sent them at the request of Hellmut Lehmann-Haupt. Records within the collection indication that Lehmann-Haupt used a large amount of grant money received in order to obtain these images for use in his book.
In some cases only artist is indicated and in others the title of the illustration was provided.
