Biography / History
Samuel Ire Monger Major II (1830-1886) was born to Samuel Ire Monger Major I (1791-1855) and Martha Hipkins Bohannon in Frankfort Kentucky. He married Mary Brown Scott, the daughter of Robert W. and Elizabeth Scott, in 1862. He ran the Frankfort Yeoman as the editor starting in 1852 until it ceased publication in 1886. He served as a Kentucky legislator, as the mayor of Frankfort (served four terms starting in 1867), and as Kentucky's long-time Public Printer and Binder.

Scott, and Elizabeth Scott. The papers include an 1865 letter from E. M. Major as a prisoner-of-war at Camp Chase, Ohio, during the Civil War; a letter from William E. Simms concerning a speech he made in Congress in 1859; and a letter concerning politics from Congressman William Preston in 1858.
