- Biography / History
- Harry Talbert, a native of England, ran away from home, eventually settling in Loudoun County, Virginia, where he married and reared a family of nine children. All these children came to Kentucky and established homes in Bourbon County, where Harry Talbert had purchased about 100 acres of land. The five sons and four daughters of Harry Talbert were Daniel, spouse of Lydia Whaley, Reason, George, Harry, Charles, Mary, spouse of Lee Whaley, Nancy, spouse of Daniel McShane, Katherine, and Katie, spouse of Lee Whaley.
- Scope and Content
- The Talbert family papers consist of legal documents, financial records and some correspondence generated by the Talbert family of Bourbon and Nicholas counties of Kentucky. The majority of the papers are receipts for taxes, rent, the sale of land, and the sale of slaves. Also present are deeds, parts of legal cases and the will (September 10, 1861) of Daniel Talbert. A few letters concerned with family matters and finances are included. Various materials from the Sims and Heath Stock Company, including correspondence, receipts and a financial statement (1879) are included as well as a photocopy of the Whaley family genealogy.
