William S. Powell, professor of
l history emeritus at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill,
received his A.B., B.S. and M.A.
degrees from the University of
North Carolina. In addition to
teaching, he served in the North
Carolina Collection at the
University of North Carolina for
22 years. From 1951-58, he was
the assistant librarian and then
served as curator from 1958-73.
An active member of several
historical societies and
commissions, Powell lives in
Chapel Hill with his wife, Virginia.
