Collection Overview

Biography / History
Willie Snow Ethridge (1900-1982) was born in Georgia and studied journalism at Wesleyan College in Macon, Georgia. She worked as a reporter and married Mark Ethridge, who was a writer and newspaper editor. They moved to Louisville, Kentucky, at the end of the 1920s, and she began writing books about travel, history, and biography. She would publish 15 books and later win the North Carolina Award for Literature before her death in 1982. After living in Louisville, the Ethridges moved to North Carolina. Willie Snow Ethridge was actively involved in the anti-lynching movement in the South and worked within the Association of Southern Women for the Prevention of Lynching.
