- Scope and Content
- The Vance family papers (dated 1944-1952, 1977-1979; 0.08 cubic feet; 2 folders) comprises letters and one diary that document the lives of members of the Vance family of Lobb, Kentucky during World War II and later in the twentieth century. The letters are sent to George Vance and his wife Minnie from their children and other relatives. Their sons write about serving in the military, being in the Pacific Theatre, personal health, and from whom they have received letters. Relatives write about personal health, family gossip, and happiness at being able to have seen the couple. Attached to a few of the letters are photographs. The small diary recounts day-to-day life for members of the Vance family, tasks completed around the farm, friends helped and visited, deaths, funerals, and contact information.
- The Vance family papers collection is part of the Wade Hall Collection of American Letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
