Biography / History
Isaac Shelby, the first governor of Kentucky, was the son of Evan Shelby of Maryland and later Fincastle County, Virginia. John Shelby appears to have been a brother of Isaac.
Scope and Content
This collection is comprised of the early land records of the Shelby family. Included are land warrants awarded to Evan Shelby, Isaac Shelby, and John Shelby in return for military service; survey reports of some of these lands; including several to Isaac Shelby in Kentucky and to Evan Shelby in Fincastle County, Va.; tax notices; legal documents; bills of sale and a map of Pennsylvania and Maryland.
