- Biography / History
- Granville Underwood (1816-1894) was born in or near Cincinnati, Ohio. He later moved to what is now McLean County, Kentucky, where he bought and farmed land. Underwood also served in the 129th Regiment of the Kentucky Militia during the 1840's and 1850's.
- Scope and Content
- This is a collection of papers of the Underwood family. Materials consist of financial records and correspondence of the Underwood family of McLean County, Kentucky. Included with his papers (1838-1889) are bills, bills of sale, receipts, tax receipts, a certificate of stock in the Owensboro and Russelville Railroad, correspondence from family members, a roster of the 129th regiment of which Underwood, at one time, served as captain, and his Ensign Commission from Governor Charles Wickliffe (1788-1869).
