Dear Sir,

I have just received your letter
of Jan. 28th, from whleh I find that we
have bath misunderstood our previous cor—
reSpondence. In Your last letter to me
you name)$100 as the price for which you
would be villing to let Messrs Methuen
have the us a of your collations of Lamb
letters nov in America, most nf vhieh, you
said, had pegged through your hands. I
replied at once asking for a list of these
collations, in order that my publishers
might know What they were paving for. As
no reply to this request ever reached me,
and as I am making steady progress with
Lamb and am wanting the American material
I have had to take other steps to try and
procure it; but the chances of sucees
seem small.

A Mr Ingpen, for many years with
Smith & Elder, 13 making my Bibliography.
