My dear Dean:

I reoeive[d] a Norfolk Chronicle this morning; for
which I suppose I am indebted to your attention. I thank you sin—
cerely for the pleasure afforded me by the report it contains of
your most gratifying meeting. I see that the Secularists attempt;
ed a diversion, as you anticipated; but the general tone of the
discussion appears to have been satisfactory, and its result tri—
umphant. I wish I could move my friends in Buckinghamshire to half
the exertion you are making in Norfolk; but we are not zealous.

In all my security and respectability at Aylasbury I sometimes de—
siderate the fiery enthusiasm of unsafe and unsound Yarmouth. Poor
Yarmouth! What will evor rsscue it from its slough of Radicalism?

I attribute no small part of your success in the promotion of our
objects in Norfolk to your personal efforts; and I augur the best
consequences from the continuance of them. You seem to have your
Bishop steadier than I expected.

The importance of the struggle grows daily in magnitude. For it
becomes more and mors clear that a National Education Scheme, of
one sort or another, is to be thg Government measurs for next Ses—
sion - and ths best reply will bs the prcoccupation of the ground
by the Church.
