Dear Mr. North:-— I have an inquiry from the London publisher A. M. Methuen con— cerning collections in this country of; Lamb material. we are publishing in con- nection with the Nethuens, their library. of Standard Literature. This Library is to include a set of Lamb's works edited by Mr. Lucas. Methuen desired to secure for the use of Mr.Lucas, as many original Lamb letters as can be found. He under— stands that there are in Americaflone hundred or more of such letters? Some k¢4fl%%, of these wereflin the possession of the late Augustin Daly, and others were in the hands of other collectors who were partic— ularly interested in Lamb. Mr.Methuen wants my help in securing information concerning these letters, and in obtaining copies of such Vézt may be within reach. Bearing in mind your old—time knowledge of and interest in Lamb material, I thought you might possibly be able to give me the names of certain American collectors who have such material in their possession, and with whom I could come into corres~ pondence on behalf of Mr.Methuen. Any information that you might be in a posi- tion to give to me, I should be cordially appreciative of; I an, Yours faithfully, mm- Ernest D. North, Esq,, Messrs.Chas.Scribner'sSons, 155 Fifth Avenue, City.
