Dear Mrs. Peal:

Deeply as I appreciate the inviation contained in your
letter of January 4th and much as I should enjoy accepting
it, I am sorry that I must ask to be excused from so doingo

With the passing years I find it increasingly necessary
to conserve my strength and to greatly limit the number of
my engagements, particularly evening engagements. Adherence
to this policy, wise as I am sure it is, unhappily deprives
me frequently, as in the present instance, of contacts and
associations which I would greatly enjoy.

The fact that Spelman Hall was given as a memorial to my
mother only adds to my disappointment in not being able to
attend the annual meeting in response to the gracious invi—
tation of the residents, staff and Committee of Management.

With the assurance of my appreciation of the courtesy of
the invitation and in the earnest hope that Spelman Hall
may continue to render useful service to the young women
of this city, I am,

sincarely,

W133 (BOW/9'
