section false xt7qjq0stw34_3824 xt7qjq0stw34 33/ I ,ofla Wm fl 560 Zattere Venice - May 8,1890 My dear Colvin I am in Venice;&r some weeks rubbing out ‘the memoryof snow & ice. A friend of mine here, Paul Tilton, son of a well known American artist, has a picture wh. his father bought & considered to be a genuine Titian o It is certainly a most remarkable production- a Magdalene, not unlike the Titan in the Pitti, but far finer in conception, tone, composition & beauty. He wants to send it to London, & has written twice to Agnew (the second time enclosing a letter from myself). But Agnew has not condescended to answer. Tilton is now on the lookout for some other London agent. But he does not know how to set about finding one. I am anxious that his picture should be well seen in London, not only for Tiiion's sake, but also for art's sake. It ought~£ think to.... a national gallery. I have written to Burton much to the same effect as I have done to you. But I am so far interested in the matter that I even venture to bother you too — feeling thst your official relation to agents & brokers in art things makes you likely to tell me of precisely the right man - & knowing how unfailing your kindness to your friends is. A second edn. of a little book of mine 0n Dante has just come out. It wasthe first book I published; 8: I well remember the encouragement which some hearty words of welcome you wrote about it in the Fortnightly gave me. I hOpe that your health is steadily improving. After shaking off the influenza I have been well. Believe me most sincerely yrs John Addington Symonds SXMONDS, John Addington (who-1893) Author and critic. Venice.
