possessed much interest for the public about the date of the brilliant
successes of the English in India in the years 1792 and 1799. He painted
subjects suggested by the events of thelndian war, which were engraved,
and met with considerable success. Mr. Brown had a good theoretical
knowledge of his art; but the rising talent which displayed itself towards

the latter part of his life, totally superseded his, and he lived unknown as
an artist, except to a small circle of friends, who respected his knowledge
of Art and his amiable disposition. His principal engraved subject was
“ The Sons of Tippoo Saib received as Hostages by the Marquis of
Cornwallis.”

Mr. Brown died on the lst of June, 1831, at an advanced age.
