THE Old Water-Colour Society has lost one of
its oldest members, and English art one of its
greatest ornaments. William Hunt (lied, at the
advanced age of seventy-four, last week. He died
in the full and ripe possession of all his powers,
and a truly great artistgg. The loss has fallen sud-
denly upon us, and we}; e unable at this moment
right-1y to estimate th fextent of it. The im-
portance of his life as {in English painter,” his
influence upon that branch of art to which he
devoted his energies, andkthe character impressed
upon all he did by his simple and modest nature,
deserve, and will undoubtbdly receive, the atten-
tion ‘demzmded by the impoi‘tunce attiched to the
life of so distinguished a. mini; For the moment
nothing is left for us but to mourn the loss of one
Who could be so ill spared from his work in the
untilled -round of British art. - (/7— (‘4‘ / ’
