pointed collector of the revenues in Ireland,
and in that of Elizabeth, lord-president of the
Marches of Wales, and knight of the Garter.
In 1568 he was constituted lord-deputy of Ire-
land. He caused the statutes of Ireland to be
printed, and is stated, by Spenser and Sir J 01111
Davies, to have wisely governed that country.
Sir R. Naunton, in the “ Fragments, Regalia,"
speaks of him as a “man ofg‘reat parts.” min
