SIR ARCHIBALD NAPIER, Knt., who having accompanied
J AMES VI. into England, was sworn of the privy council,
appointed treasurepdepute of Scotland, in 1622 ; appointed
clerk and a judge of Session, in 1623; created a. Baronet of
Nova Scotia, 2 March, 1627; and elevated to the peerage of
Scotland, 4 May, in the same year, as BARON NAPIER, of
Merchistmm. He m. Margaret, dau. of John, 4th Earl of
Montrose, and dying in 1645, left, with two daus. (Margaret,
m. to Sir George Stirling, of Keir; aml Lilies, who (1. mm),
