Quadruple Alliance, it was signed at VVhite-
hall by his plenipotentiaries.

30. Dr. Bentley exhibited a complaint in
writing to the privy-council against the
proceedings of the vice-chancellor and uni-
versity of Cambridge ; whereupon the vice-
chancellor was required to attend the coun-
cil the 6th of November, to answer the
said complaint. - j

Nov. 6. The case of Dr. Bentley heard, ‘
and referred to a committee of council.

ll. Parliament met, when the king in-
formed them of the conclusion of the
Quadruple Alliance, and of his confidence
“ in the ready and friendly resolutions of
his good brother the regent of France.”
A motion was made in hoth houses for ad-
dresses, approving of the king's measures
with regard to Spain: after great debates
they were agreed to, and presented the
13th. The Commons vote(113,500 sailors,
and allowed for their maintenance 7052,0001.
They also voted 12,435 men for the loud-
service, whose pay amounted to 5236,9641.
Us. 811. These sums, with what was voted
for making good deficiencies, for the ordi-
nary ot’ the navy. and other things, amount-
ed in all to 2357,5811. 19s. The money
was raised by a malt-tax, land-tax, and a
