A group of people living in the Shop For. area
have petitioned me for a certain number u’
street lights in that area. It seems n04 that
we have installed meters in a nunber of 6
houses, the fienants naturally de s- -'. torch
lights, and the streets, ther eg are 1:
dark.
I feel we should provi uhese st* at lights,
and I would like you t aka a s - ey as to the
needs, and then let me w wh your survey

Please refer to your memorandums of April 27 and May 19 con-
cerning street lighting for the Shop Fork area.

' A3 I explained to you over the telephone, we we a little
slow getting otartod because your memorandum of Pril 27 men-
tioned John Henry Butler, and it developed late that the man
initiating the proJect was John T. M1 e .

Ao any rate, I went over the area hn Mill no Mar~
shall Tyson. They are aaking £0 at t lights hioh do
not include the group of house n the L t Fork ab e Hall's
store. /
I later went over the area at n o t d I would have to agree
that their request is x.;:.;:ble. rhapo ova or three of the
lights coulo be olia.., ed 3: cuse ople now leave lights on
their front porchea Undoubtexa' t or three more lights
could be eliminate» if people “’Eld vo their porch lights
on.
In the uppr. « roe o the colu- d school there were only one
or two s-o: ; ‘9- 13‘" their .. ch lights on. Home of these
houses = e metered, air IE‘ ot understand why they would
not 1;;4e the pore: lights on.
Refer mg to your uEiginol memorandum, apparently the men
mafia :oae reforen ~ to the installation of motors in tho Shop
Fork a e.. I bol “ 9 this claim was completely unjustified.
There a : ’.* fit or installations in the Shop Fork group,
none of wh ‘ vauld affect the lighting of the streets.
If we were to proceed with the installation of all of the
lights they have requested, namely, 1h, I would estimate that
the total cost would amount to $1,012. This would be broken
down as follows:

wire $ 300.

Poles 160.

Lighting fixtures 210.

Time clocks 22.

Labor 320.

I assume you are planning to paint the new
light standards installed along the street
through the lower end of town as soon as in-
stallation has been completed.
This is to remind you that the cost of paint-
ing these standards should be charged to the
special appropriation.

In line with Mr. Zimmerman's letter to you dated December S, 1959, \
regarding additional street lighting, I am attaching a map on which
I have indicated in red pencil a suggeste- plan for the area from
apartment A9 to house 91.
A regular steel light standard, as used e!~ewhere, is indicated
at a turn in the walk below apar us: :° : ‘ a bracket light is

. indicated on an existing power --v~ near hi s 88.
If a bracket light is used o~ :0 er pole near house 88, I
believe it should be on a l-ng u - get it near the edge of the
walk. There are several tre’= owe to the walk in this area; and
if the light is not o :710 g ~‘t- sion arm, much of the light
cauld be obSCured by 2‘ --s '.‘ d even though the light is
mounted close to the e - night still be well to remove a
couple of trees and «or t 1m some others.

This will refer to your memorandum of December 5 concerning
street lighting. V
With the present layout (i.e., a 7% KVA transformer) we have '
already expanded the upper series streetfilighting system to
its capacity. We now have 21 lights, upfch require 7.2 KW.
i: ,
There is one other move we can make, horéver. The lower street
lighting system has a lO-KVA traegfi¥m5?iflith lTJighte. We coulfi
either recOnnect some lights or eififififigezt ansformers. The
transformer change, with abou}/§:Eqn-ahi?£;>involvea, would be I I A
the more economical move. ////
