Gentlemen: ‘

In reply to your letter of April 29th regarding uour swimming pool equipment, please
Le advised test you are correct in guur assuimtion that for a maximum filter rate of lo?

GrL the reading ON the manometer gauge of the rate of flow indicator, should be at gra—
ouation 3.

You also state in your letter that on our operatin; she t, we refer to backwash valve
he. 7, and that on your installation the valve is he. 5. There is no way that we can check
frOm this office as to unether the muster on the valves on the actual installation agree ‘
with tue valve numbers as shown on the operating instructions, and we, therefore, recomr
mend that you follow the numbers on the operating instructions as a guide only. If you
have certain numbers on the valves on the actual installation, naturally, it would be ad—
visable to change the numbers on tne operating instruction sheet to correspond with the .
actual numbers on the eguipaent. .

You should not VDTT3 as to what pressure should be obtained to determine whether or
not the filters are operating properly, as the rate of flow irdicators are provided to
determine whether the filters axe operming at the proper rate or not. Each of the filters
should operate at tee rate of 3 gallOLS per sq} ft. per eunute, Which corresponds to a
reading 3 on the rate of flow indicator. In the event tint you cannot get this rate
through the filters then it may become necessary to throttle the outlet valve to. ?.
when the filters are cleaned, the differential register between the unfiltered water and
filtered water pressure gauges will be ver; slight, and when the filters require back-
washing, the differential pressure will be aggrorimately 5; per sq. inch. In other words,
whenever you obtain a differential pressure between the inlet and the outlet of the filter
of 5% per sq. in Cu, the filter should be backwashed.

he would be pleased to send :ou additional.copies of operating instructions for your
equipment, tut in that several copies were mailed to you, when tlis equifuent'wes originally

~.‘. installed, we do not nave additional oopios in our files, and it would be necessarv for
you to mail your copies to us and we shall be glad to take additional copies for you.
As ;et your formal order for the two floss tubes and packing rings has not been re—
ceived, she as soon as we receive same, we shall forward tdese tubes to you as soon as
possible.
Very truly yours,

It is planned to open the swimming pool this summer
on June 5, and all work in connection with getting
it ready should be planned and executed by that date.
Adrian Hall reported that several of the screen doors
are badly damaged and a new net for the tennis court
is needed.
We will also have to repair and mark the court be-
fore it will be ready to play on.

We will open the swimming pool this year on Saturday,
June h.
Between now and that time all of the equipment in
connection with the pool, the playground and the
change house should be gone over to see that it is
all in first-claSS condition.
All visible leaks in the pool should be calked with
some type of calking compound such as lead or per—
haps heated asphalt. If the pool needs painting,
this should also be done.
I particularly want to call attention to the condi—
tion of the diving boards, and if new boards are
required, have them ordered as soon as possible.
Last year some of the supporting frames for the div-
ing boards were loose, and these should be tightened
so that they are in a good, firm condition.
The supply of chemicals should be checked to see
that there is an adequate quantity of each type
available.
Adrian Hall will again be in charge of the pool this
summer, and the pool is not to be filled with water
until he advises.

From your report of June 10 on the test for leakage
at the swimming pool, it appears that most of the
leakage is through the expansion joints in the over—
flow curb.
There is very little we can do to correct the condi—
tion this year, but we should keep it in mind for
next year. Some time prior to Opening the pool next
year we should calk all of the cracks to stop as much
of the leakage as possible.
Adrian Hall reported to me today over the telephone _
that he had found a few quite large leaks in the curb
wall. it might be well for you to examine these and
see if you can stop up those that seem to leak the
greatest amount of water.
Starting with today, Adrian will discontinue filling
the pool to the top of the overflow curb prior to
Opening the pool to the public. He will hold the
water level down to h inches below the curb and then
supply makemup water as needed after people start
using the pool.

I understand that prior to the opening of the
pool this year, you did considerable work to
the pool structure and the piping in connection
with it to overcome leaks that were causing a
large loss of water. I also understand that a
great deal more of this work is necessary to
‘ overcome the leaks altogether.
Please keep this in mind so that we can do
what is necessary to correct all of the defeo~
tive conditions causing water loss sometime
before the pool is opened next year.
