" BURNER ASSEMBLY AND INSTALLATION
SU-TO AND SU-85
These two sizes use a single ring burner. It is shipped assembled with mixer tube, air shutter,
etc. Check drill size in gas spud. To remove spud, screw air shutter towards inlet of mixer
tube (leave about M1” open) then apply wrench to hexagon of spud holder and unscrew.
Before re-inserting it, screw air shutter on spud holder in approximately the same position
and insert.

1. Attach 3A” nipple of two inch length to mixer tube. Slip support bracket over nipple
with concave face of bolting lug facing burner. Attach %” union elbow to free end of nipple

STARTING or FURNACE EEEEEEEE ‘ _
Start furnace as explained in "Operating In-

Shut Off all other appliances connected to gas é
meter and time gas rate of furnace. Connect pres-
sure gouge to %" tapping in elbow and adjust
pressure (adjustment screw is beneath cap on top
of regulator). Turn clockwise to increase pres-
sure and counterclockwise to decrease pressure. Fig. 7
Adjust final gas rote only after heating element is hot. Do not regulate pressure on natural
gas below 3” Water Column. If necessary to obtain proper gas rote, replace spud with one
of smaller drill size.
The proper gas rate is obtained by dividing the rating of the unit by the heat valve of the
gas.
Gas rate per hour in cubic feet equals ___—Input rating 0‘ unit
Btu value of gas ‘
Divide this by 60 to obtain gas rate per minute
EXAMPLE: Unit has input rating of 85,000 B.T.U.
Value of gas per cubic foot is 1,000 B.T.U.
Then required gas rate per hour equals 01%):85 cu. ft.

PILOT ADJUSTMENT .
Adjust pilot tlame so that it extends over the top of the burner. It should normally be less
‘ than 11/2” long. The pilot rate can be adjusted with the screw underneath the cap at the pilot
cock.
The pilot is attached to the burner which assures proper location. The removal of the
pilot is done best by breaking union at manifold elbow and withdrawing burner. To withdraw
burner it is usually necessary to remove burner opening frame which is held by tour screws.
PRIMARY AIR ADJUSTMENT
' Adjust flame so as to burn quietly, be free of yellow and have a noticeable cone above
burner. On the SU-70 and SU-85 turn air shutter at mixing tube clockwise to reduce air and
counter-clockwise to increase air. After setting flame, lock shutter in position with inclined
screw protruding at inlet end of mixing tube. On SU-IOS, 125 & 150, loosen clamp screws on
air shutter, push shutter in to reduce primary air or pull out to increase air. Lock in final posi-
tion by tightening clamp screws on shutter.

E OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE
' A. NORMAL STARTING
To place unit in automatic operation proceed as tollows:
1. Open front jacket access door to controls and make sure main gas cock at con-
ditioner is closed—Open valve, if any, in gas supply line from gas meter to con-
ditioner.
2. See that the proper tuses are in place and that the switch in the circuit to the unit
is ‘closed (Switch—“ON”). It zone controls are used—more than one thermostat—
be sure that manual switch on cover of each damper motor is turned to “center”
position (tor automatic operation).
3. It adjustment of volume dampers in individual ducts was changed for summer
ventilation, re-adjust to predetermined position for winter operation.
7 4. If control box is used, set point of summer-winter switch to “Winter.”
5. Wait 5 minutes. Open pilot line gas cock. Litt off removable panel at front burner -
opening. Light pilot (near front of burner) by attaching match to wire rod lighter
and inserting it through upper opening in front burner frame. I
6. After pilot has been burning for 2 minutes, press button on top_of pilot safety l
switch and release. The word “ON” will appear in the window of this switch. It the It I
word “OFF” appears, press and release button again after waiting an additional .
2 minutes and repeat if necessary. 7
7. Replace removable panel at burner opening and open main gas cock. l
8. Set thermostat above room temperature. “
9. The burner will now light and thermostat can be set .for desired temperature for
automatic operation. Replace front jacket door.
10. Where a humidifier is used, open valve in water line to humidifier. \
B. NORMAL STOPPING j
The controls will shut off the gas automatically when: 1‘
l. The room temperature rises above the setting of all Room Thermostats. :
2. The temperature of the air in the Plenum Chamber rises 20° to 40° above the blower l
“Cut-In” temperature. I
I
C. AUTOMATIC SAFETY STOPPING 2
It the pilot is extinguished the safety controls will shut 0!! burner. To relight, close I
main gas cock, wait 10 minutes and then relight as explained in Paragraph “A”. ‘ I
‘.
D. RESTORING CONTROLS FOR NORMAL STARTING l
IF the burners tail to ignite automatically, check the pilot; then check all conditions I
required for Normal Starting as given in Paragraph “A”. 3
E. NORMAL OPERATION
In normal operation, provided the gas supply does not fail, the unit will start and ‘
stop automatically maintaining Room Temperature at the desired level. f,‘
The only adjustments which should be made by the owner are to set the room 1. '
thermostat (or thermostats, it zone controls are used) to the desired temperature ,. j
levels. All other adjustments should be made by the heating contractor or a capable Isl}
gas company service man. ’l
F. EMERGENCY STOPPING ‘
1. Open the switch in the electric circuit to the unit (Switch—“OFF”). ' ‘1'
2. Close shut off valve, it any, in gas supply line to unit. .
3. Close main gas cook and pilot cock at unit. I

( sufiéfifwmfibormieAs FIRED wmfiifi AIR CONDITIONER—OPERATION
G. SUMMER OPERATION ‘
1. Close shut off valve in gas line to unit. Close main cock and pilot cock at unit.
2. If a humidifier is used close valve in water supply line to humidifier.
3. It control box is used set pointer to “SUMMER”.
4, For summer operation on zone systems, adjust manual switch on cover of each
damper motor to “OPEN” for zones where circulation cooling is desired and to
“CLOSE”tor zones where cooling is not required. If desired, adjust volume dampers
to desired position for summer operation.
, H. CARE OF EQUIPMENT
1. Oiling—
Oil blower motor with No. 10 motor oil every 3 months of operation? Oil blower
bearings at same time it oil cups are provided at bearing. (Access to motor and
blower is through lower front jacket door).
“ 2. Air Filters—
. When air filters become clogged with dirt they prevent free circulation of Air.
3 Filters should be changed at least once every heating season and more often it
I l they become clogged within this period. Your heating contractor or gas company
i, will supply new filters at a nominal charge.
7 . 3. Annual Inspection—
; Have your heating contractor or gas company check the condition of your system
i at least once a year.
i NOTE: All parts for this furnace have been carefully inspected and packed. In case of
