In giving effect to the policy outlined in my letter of April u
we will be guided by the following procedure:
1. When a tenant requests paint and paper he should be
instructed to file the request with the house renter
at the main office. Each request will be numbered
consecutively starting with No. l and will be listed
on the form, copy of which is attached.
29 The paint to he furnished will be selected from five I
standard eolore that have been approved for use in
the houses. - . V
3. The paper to be used is to be selected from the hooks
in the Furniture Department at Store No. l, the price
of which will not exceed $1.00 per double roll,
4. It will be necessary for the tenants to use the ex—
perienced paper hangers or painters now employed by
. Inland or other painters or paper hangers designated
I by the Building and Grounds Department as qualified.
5. After the form has been fiEed out at the office it .
L will be referred to the Building and Grounds Depart«
ment, A representative of that Department will inter—
; View the tenant and give an estimate of the cost of
' * the material after which the form is to be returned
to the Superintendent of Coal Properties who will
. either ayprove or dieayprove the request.
6. The number of houses to he painted and papered under '
this program must he limited to fifteen a month.
After the house renter has listed in any one month ,
fifteen requests, each numbered consecutively, he
will, in listing additiotal requests, start with No.
l but Show the work as coming under the allotment for
the following month.

Certain questions have arisen since my memorandum to you of

May 2, which I think require a further statement of policy

with respect to the painting and papering of rooms in our

ho u .r; e s .

1. When a house is rented, the rent clerk will advise each
new tenant that it will be necessary to move into the
house without it being painted or papered. If the tenant
wishes to have any painting or papering done, it will be

. necessary for him to fill out a "Request for Paint or
' Paper” form. In that event, the house renter will advise ‘
the new tenant that the Company will pay for the cost of
the paint or paper but he must pay for the cost of the
labor in applying the paint or paper.
It is understood that the B&G Department will make neces~
sary repairs to the house other than painting or papering
either before or immediately after the house is rented.

2. When a tenant treHSfers from one house to another house,
it must be understood by the tenant that the Company
will not do any painting or pepering to thahouse unless
the request for paint or paper form is filled out, and
the house renter should explain to the tenant that it
will be necessary for him to pay for the cost of labor.

3. I understand we have received requests from tenants
that they be reimbursed for paint or paper purchased by
them for use in our houses prior to my memorandums to
you of April h and May 2. No doubt the tenants have
made these purchases with the thought that if they
furnished the material, the Company would furnish the
labor in applying the material. It will be our policy
to reimburse the tenant for all such material purchased

h. When it is necessary to repaint or repaper a room due
I to repairs to plaster, it seems to me the circum-

. stances in each individual case will have to be con-
sidered, and would be controlling in determining
whether the Company should stand all or part of the ex-
pense. Since these cases are rare, I believe they
should be discussed with Superintendent Parker or the

- writer, and a decision will be reached as to what part
of the expense of the painting or papering will be
taken care of by the Company.

THIS CONTRACT, made and entered into by and between INLAND STEEL COMPANY, Incorporated, party of the first part, and
Hm party of the
second part.

WITNESSETH: That, second party—“HM has rented
and received from first party, Inland Steel Company. Incorporated, upon the terms and conditions hereinafter set forth, the following
described articles of merchandise, goods and chattels:

accepted and received the items of property specifically enumerated above all in good order and valued at__________

In consideration of the use thereof, under the termsof this agreement, second'party covenants and agrees to use said items of prop-
erty with care and keep the same in the same good condition as when received, fair wear and tear excepted, and for the use thereof to

of which is hereby acknowledged and which is accepted as the first payment only, and then at the rate oL“

Second party shall bear all losses on said merchandise in the case of fire or theft.

the obligations hereof fully satisfied by second party, at which time the title to the properties shall vest in the second party hereto ab-

second party shall not sell, offer to sell, remove or attempt to remove the said merchandise, or any part thereof, from the premises '
where he resides without the written consent of first party or its duly authorized agent until all of the rental payments and obligations
hereof have been satisfied in full.

If default shall be made in either of said payments, or if second party breaches or violates any of the foregoing terms or conditions
of this contract, then and in that event his right to possessmn of said goods and chattels shall automatically be and become forfeited and
first party, or its agents, shall be and are hereby authorized to rte-possess the .same with or without legal proceedings, advertising and
sale being waived; and for all purposes of such re—possesswn, first party, or its agents, shall be and they are hereby authorized to enter
the premises wherever said merchandise, or any part of it, may be and take and carry away the same or any part thereof, second partv '
hereby waiving any action for trespass or damage therefor and disclaiming any right of resistance thereto. ’

It is understood that in event any or either of the above-mentioned installments are not paid when due, all revious a 'ment 0 .

Any failure on the part of first party to exercise the foregoing forfeiture provisions or to take ossession of the merchandise im-
