Mac:
The reports and copy of Mr. Willison's letter are attached
for your file, also a copy of his invoice.
As soon as convenient, depending upon weather conditions,
you should arrange to have the cooling tower at the store
cleaned, as recommended by Mr. Willison.
Also, every thirty days during the operating season, com-
mencing with September 1, the cooling towers at the store
and at house No. 100 should be examined to see that water
is circulating and spraying properly and to renew the in-
hibiting chemicals, if necessary.
These steps, I am sure, will avoid future trouble with the
air conditioners.

flea: Hr. Willison:
I received your prOposal to inspect, afijust, and oil the air-
conditioning systemb here in Wheelwright and Priue, Kentucky.
Your proposal was very muih in line with what we were thinking
about; but after some discussion with Mr. Zimmerman, Manager
Coal Properties, we decided not [0 go into the I.A.U. service
contract at this time.
I personally wish to thank you for the courtesy shown me on
my visit to your pla 2 last month. The information you gave
me was very helpful.

INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR

FRIGII)AIRE COMMERCIAL COMPRESSORS
Locating the Compressor:

The compressor should always be located as close as possible to the ltll'tfl'.\i
refrigerated fixture. This location should also be on the same level or below the refrig-
erated fixtures to insure proper oil return to the compressor body. Avoid placingr the
air cooled compressor in a location where the temperature may go belov. that
required to obtain sutficient head pressure to assure proper refrigeration results.
\Vatcr cooled compressors must be located so that the unit is never exposed to
freezing temperatures at any time.

The compressors may be placed on a metal stand. on a concrete slab. or on
the floor if it is sufficiently solid. lie sure that the unit stands perfectly level and has
its weight evenly distributed on all four corners. A layer of twoeineh eorkboard placed
under the compressor will absorb most of the vibration and make a quieter installa—
tion. 7) H. l‘. and larger compressors are shipped with special mounting: material to
be placed under the base. llo not install air cooled compressors in spaces smaller
than recommended by the District Engineer or in spaces where the ventilation is
limited
Refrigerant Lines.

Run the tubing as straight as possible to avoid oil traps and fasten it at intervals
with tubing clamps. Where tubing is exposed to abuse or wear, it should be protected
with metal roiiduit.

Before starting the compressor. be sure the air is purged or removed from
all refrigerant lines and any evaporators that have been open to the atmosphere. Then
using the Frigidaire Leak I.)etector, l’iece No. SAAZZIJH'» for Freon—12 or 28’} ammonia
solution for St) 2, and with refrigerant pressure in the lines. test very carefully for
leaks.

Plumbing Instructions (Water (‘ooled Compressors):

The plumbing is very importanty as a constant supply of water and an adequate
drain is necessary at all times for satisfactory operation of the water cooled corn-
pressors. .—\ll plumbing: should meet with the approval of local plumbing code.
The water supply line must be galvanized pipe and should be large, enough to supply
the necessary amount of water.

It is extremely important that there be no thread sealing compound inside the
pipe lines as it may clog the water valve or condenser coil. To avoid this possibility,
start the thread in the connection and then paint with sealing conipo'hul before tight-
(‘llllltl‘ up. This eliminates the possibility of getting sealing compound inside the lines.
install a hand shutoff valve in the supply line as close as possible to the eonzpressor.
The water supply line should be connected to the compressor using a suitable si'/.e
pipe, copper tubing; or flexible metal hose. t'se rubber hose only it' the \\ater
valve is installed ahead of the hose, which will not subject the hose to high water
pressure. Where possible, it is advisable to have the water supply line start from a
point near the entrance of the line to the building; insuring a colder water supply. The
water drain from the compressor should be connected to the water outlet conned
tion with a fitting of suitable size. Run the drain into an open sewer such as a floor
drain or sink.

 Wiring Instructions:

The regulations governingr electrical work Vary in different localities so it is advisr
able to have this work done by someone familiar with the local regulations. All wiring
must conform with the National Code using‘ flexible or solid conduit. Separate
approved fused disconnect switch must be used in Frigidaire circuit. This switch
should be equipped with the proper size fuses and should be Visible and accessible
while working: on the compressor. For compressors equipped with Yl. switches a
contactor is required with single phase motors. 113 Volt, 1‘; ll. 1‘. or larger. and 213”
Volt. 3 H. l’. and larger. ('oinpressors with polyphase motors regardless of size
require a contactor in the circuit. L’nits with l).('. motors of i ll. 1’. and 1‘: ll. P.
will also require a contactor, while units with l). (‘. motors of 2 ll. l’. and larger must
be wired with a reduced Voltage starter in the circuit. When a starter or contactor is
used. it must be equipped with the proper thermal elements.

Where a starter or contactor is not used. the compressor Y1. switch must
carry the full motor current. If, with this condition, the motor does not have a built in
’l‘hermotron, it is important that the thermal element in the YL switch be of the proper
size, for the motor used. (See table inside of Yli switch cover.) Where the motor is
equipped with a 'l‘hermotron. further protection in the Yli switch is not necessary.
Frigidaire compressor motors of “_r H. l‘. and smaller, single phase and l). (‘. are
equipped with a 'l‘hermotron.

NOTE; Frigidaire Division will not be responsible for damages to Frigidaire equip
ment if thermal elements larger than those specified are used.
