Superintendent of Bldgs. & Grounds
The Inland Steel Company August 29, 1950
Wheelwright, Kentucky
Dear Mr. Becker:

It was indeed a pleasure to meet and talk with you last
Tuesday regarding your air conditioning and ventilating problems.

As I told you, if you will send me drawings of the office
Space to be air conditioned along with an indication of the number
of occupants, lighting load, additional load due to calculating
machines or other heat producing devices, and so forth, I will
calculate a load sheet for the job. You and the Williamson Supply
Company could then get together for any definite action you propose
to take.

The problem of ventilating the laundry has been taken up with
our Mr. D. B. Schindler, here in the Pittsburgh Office, and Mr.
Schindler has indicated his willingness to get into this problem
when you send me the drawing and information on the laundry. I am
sure that we will be able to come up with some sort of workable
solution in both caseS.

Unit Package No. EM-13898 contains the necessary parts to install a foot
pedal assembly on Models PR3, PR35, PR6, PR6lO, PT}, PT35, PT6 and PT6lO water
coolers. It will facilitate the assembly of these parts if the water supply

line and drain line are disconnected from the cooler. However, if there is

sufficient room to work around the cooler conveniently it is not necessary to

disconnect the lines.
To install the foot pedal assembly, proceed as follows:

1. Install the rod adjusting assembly, Figure 2—K on the pedal spring, 2—J with
screws and lockwashers-

2. Insertthe pedal spring, 2—J, under the base by tipping cooler slightly toward
left side and secure in place with two screws and lockwashers at 2—L.

FI‘IQICICIlre Water Coolers
with the famous Meter-Miser

Frigidaire Water Coolers are engineered and built to provide an abundance

of properly cooled water at the par/a of a button. They offer maximum

portability with their compact, lightweight design and simple installation.
In order that full benefit can be secured from Frigidaire Water Coolers,
these installation suggestions are provided:

IMPORTANT: The Water Cooler must be located where there is an ample

supply of cool air for the condenser. The Cooler should not be set too

close to the wall, or in any crowded area that may restrict the flow of air.
INSTALLING BOTTLED WATER OR PRESSURE TYPE MODELS

1. Carefully uncrate the Cooler.

2. Each Water Cooler should be thoroughly inspected, first of all, to
see whether any damage has occurred in shipment. Damage should
be reported to the carrier promptly, and a claim filed.

3. Move Cooler to desired location.

4. Make certain that the Cooler rests solid and level on floor to prevent
vibration.

5. Connect service cord to receptacle having the proper current require-
ments.

6. Make certain unit floats freely on its mountings.

7. Check and make certain the thermal protective device, located on the
discharge line at the compressor, is closed by pushing in the projecting
arm of the manual reset lever.

NOTE: The YS thermal protector opens the electrical circuit to the

motor if the temperature of the dome and discharge line reach 215

degrees F., the maximum operating temperature for motor safety.
PRESSURE TYPE MODEL CONNECTIONS

'|. Run a %” supply pipe to the Cooler and attach to the %” connection
on the Cooler. A %” supply line should be used where the pressure
is below 30 lbs. or the supply line is more than 20 feet long. The load
on the supply line should also be taken into consideration.

2. Provide a 1%” drain for the Cooler with suitable trap and vent, and
connect to the cooler drain.

3. Level the Cooler and 'connect to proper source of electriCal supply.
4. Check all plumbing connections for leaks.

 SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS
_ I. The water supply line should be equipped with a hand shut-off valve.

2. Unions should be installed in both the supply and drain lines to
facilitate servicing.

3. It is important that no thread sealing compound enters the interior
of the pipes. Start the thread in the fitting and then apply the com-
pound.

4. No oiling is required. The compressor and motor are oiled for life
and the ball-bearing fan motor is an oil-less type.

5. All these Water Coolers are designed to use 115 volt, 60/50 cycle,
single phase, alternating current. Be sure to check the current charac—
teristics of the power supply before connecting the service cord.

6. When the installation is complete, check the temperature of the
water through several cycles and set the Cold-Control to the desired
point.

7. Check for proper stream height on pressure models.

8. Purge air from water connections.

It’s easy to figu re Air Conditioning jobs right !
Information contained in this book will enable any Frigidaire selling man, i
with even a minimum amount of air conditioning training, to easily deter-
mine the correct air conditioning load and select the proper equipment.
All data is based on the combined knowledge of factory and field engi»
neers, resulting from many thousands of satisfactory installations of Frigidaire
Air Conditioning equipment.
This guide will enable you to do all of the following:
' 0 Survey prospect’s place of business
0 Determine the air conditioning “point” load -
0 Select proper self-contained or suspended type unit
0 Layout the wiring
0 Layout the plumbing . .
0 Design the duct system if necessary
0 Select proper grilles
0 Prepare your proposal 1
Examples are provided which explain in an easily understood manner, how _
to complete the survey form with all needed information.
The six major load factors, which constitute the total air conditioning load,
are covered in six easily understood steps.
Capacities of self-contained units and various combinations of suspended
units with compressors, are likewise given to aid in the selection of properly
sized equipment.
Since this guide will materially assist you in increasing your sal
