Dear Sir:

We acknowledge your letter of April 28, regarding
the difficulties you are having with a 4" H 9020 regulator.

We have carefully considered your problem and
have decided upon a few suggestions, of which we wish you
would carry out. First however, we suggest that you install
two pressure gages, one on the inlet side of the regulator,
the other on the outlet beyond the auxiliary line. These
are necessary in order that you can make proper adjustments.

After this has been done, check your inlet gage
and see if the pressure is the same as the order specified
when ordering the regulator. If it is more or less than what
the order called for you will need to make certain adjustments.

We believe, however, that you wixl find your
pressure is too low for the spring tension now on your
regulator, and you should therefore, turn the stem nut (marked
2 on the instruction sheet) up, two full turns. It maybe
necessary to turn this nut possibly three or four turns
all together in order to secure proper operation.

Your next step is to close the gate valve on the
delivery side and this will enable you to check your look

i. off pressure which should be only a few pounds more than your

’ delivery pressure. If the pressure keeps creeping up, it
indicates that the stem or seat ring is damaged and then the
valve must be taken apart and repaired.

Upon carrying out these two suggestions, the
regulator should work properly unless there is only, at times,
a very small demand such as one or two faucets. In this case,
it will be necessary to install a l" H 9000 on a by-pass line
around the main regulator. The delivery pressure of the
by-pass regulator should be from 5 to 10 pounds higher than
the main regulator. For example, the main regulator is set
at 40#, therefore the by-pass regulator should be set at 47#.

In this way the by-pass regulator will take care of the small
demands, and when a large supply is needed the main regulator
will cut in. Cont.

the auxiliary valve and from the outlet of the aiix1liary regulator piping should be extended and con- ‘ :1"
nected into the low pressure main about six or more feet away from the outlet of the main regulator. :35

I regulator. If a lower pressure is required hack out slightly on the adjusting screw. If this does not
I - ' give the required pressures it may he necessary to change the tension on the main regulator springs
I 7. 7 and to do this proceed as follows:
I 1" 1. Close stop “B" on outlet pipe of auxiliary valve. ()pen valve in main outlet pipe, dropping
I . pressure to zero. Then turn main regulator nut “D” down for a higher pressure or back it up for a
I, 7 lower pressure. This should he set so that the main stem just barely raises off the seat which may
_. he detected by a hissing sound in the main regulat(')r hody. When this point is found in the adjust»
j . _ ment, then turn the main adjusting nut "D" up one full turn which assures the main stem seating
g ' , solidly and shutting off the pressure completely. Then open stop “P," and regulator should be
j 7 properly adjusted. Be sure that the inlet pressure is at its minimum or normal pressure when adjust—

 ERECTING INSTRUCTIONS FOR WOOD TANKS

Support weight from bottom. Have ends of staves clear the founda-
tion. Put bottom together as marked. Have all joints snug and true. In
driving staves on. dress a thin shaving off the top edge of bottom to make
a tight fit with croze in staves. Drive staves on about one-half the depth
of the croze and tight against each other. Dress Off and fit in the last stave
and do not use more than required to fill the circle. Staves all have same
bevel and will fit wherever placed. but where some have more taper than
others put them at intervals. Don't pound staves on. Staves can be held
together by nailing a thin strip or lath lightly on outside about midway.
Use no oakum. rope. paint or other material in the joints. See that joints
in staves do not come opposite joint in bottom.

NOTE — Where two or more tanks of one size are furnished. staves
are interchangeable.

In putting on hoops. space them as per blue print. Draw hoops up
gradually. working several times around the tank. and put no more strain
on them than exerted by a wrench.’ Put on hoops so lugs will be located
spirally around tank —- not under each other.

Paint tank on outside only.

IMPORTANT — We recommend employing an experienced mechanic
for this work.
IMPORTANT — Fill tank as soon as erected.

Do not attempt to use any parts that do not fit without first
notifying us.
