Scope and Content
The Ohio woman travel diary (dated 1929; 0.06 cubic feet; 2 folders) comprises one short travel diary of a young woman from Ohio traveling through Canada and then sailing to Europe in the summer of 1929. She documents her trip, starting in Ohio where she meets up with friends to travel to Montreal, Canada, from there they board the S.S. Majestic, the ship that will take them to Europe. The young woman describes the weather and activities aboard the ship, and writes down historic facts about the landmarks they visit. She details seeing popular sites such as Waterloo Station, Oxford University, Westminster Abbey, and Hyde Park. She then goes on to detail her travels to Amsterdam and Germany, describing her shopping trips, site seeing, and riding on a water taxi. Also included in this collection is a pamphlet from White Star Line that displays the layout and photographs of the ships interior.
The Ohio woman travel diary collection is part of the Wade Hall Collection of American Letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
