PUBLISHED WEEKLY AT THE MARGARET I. KING LIBRARY, UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY, LEXINGTON, KY. 40506-0039

FROM THE ADMINISTRATIVE COMMITTEE. . .
A potential problem has come up with the book fund. For the first time (
in a number of years we carried over money ($82,000). The Budget Office ,
has denied the carryover. Paul Willis is requesting reconsideration and
a codification of the verbal policy allowing us to do this.
The Senate Library Committee meets soon. The committee will be given an
update on the library (circulation system, positions lost, budget, etc.) .
The Library has received $@75.27, to be used for the enhancement of research
and scholarship, from the UKRF Incentive Program Allocation. Suggestions
for using the money were: putting it in data services for librarians' use
for research, a piece of microform equipment, offering our own mini—grant `
or seed money for other grants.
The ARL meeting is in Washington on October I3 and lil. Since there is no
· travel money for anyone to attend, Paul Willis asked unit heads to check
and see if anyone would be U1 Washington on those dates who would be willing
to represent the library at the meeting.
John Henderson from UK Information Services wants to feature the Library at
one of the half time programs of an October football game. Some suggestions
on what to feature if we decide to do the program were: the Peal Collection,
an outlying library or the Library as a regional depository of government °
documents.
Paul Willis reminded the Committee that the deadline for the Council on
Library Resources Internship Program is October llth. He asked that the
unit heads encourage anyone in their units interested to pursue it.
The Council on Library Resources is offering a $3000 grant for cooperative
research from libraries and academic units. One idea for use of the grant
was to do a research methods course for librarians, drawing on other campus
units for the teaching.
DEDICATION OF THE W. HUGH PEAL COLLECTION ‘
· The extraordinary collection of manuscripts and rare books donated to the
University of Kentucky Libraries by Mr. W. Hugh Peal will be dedicated to

the early English Rommxtics, including Wordsworth, Coleridge, Southey and
Charles lamb.
