- Biography / History
- Boone County, the 30th county organized in Kentucky, was established in 1798 out of part of Campbell County and named in honor of Colonel Daniel Boone. Located in the north bend of the Ohio River, it is the northernmost county in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
- Scope and Content
- The Boone County historical records (dated 1766-1963; 0.45 cubic feet; 1 box) primarily contains booklets and typescripts concerning the early history and early residents of Boone County, Kentucky. The booklets contain lists of residents in the region since the mid-eighteenth century. The cemetery and tombstone inscription booklets list names and birth/death dates of individuals based on graves in the cemeteries. Typescript copies of Marietta Gaines' memorandum and John Calvert's notebook both list persons they knew in Boone County. The typescript of William Clark Reynold's diary lists his daily tasks but references many different individuals living in Boone County while he was a resident there in the mid nineteenth century. The Big Bone Lick historic site papers offer a history of Big Bone Lick State Park which is located at Big Bone in Boone County, Kentucky, on Beaver Road between the communities of Beaverlick and Rabbit Hash.
