Milford Overley was a member of the 9th Kentucky Cavalry, C.S.A. Lexington, Ky. during the Civil War.

The Milford Overley papers are mainly comprised of the original manuscript for From the Cradle to the Grave: The Southern Confederacy, Its Birth, Its Struggle for Existence and Its Tragic Death. Other materials in the collection include a scrapbook containing articles pertaining to the Civil War and Milford Overley.
