- Scope and Content
- The Nathan Van Patten papers contain numerous materials, namely correspondence, of Dr. Nathan Van Patten. The majority of the correspondence is between Dr. Van Patten and Mrs. Hammond Dugan who was an associate archivist at the University of Kentucky Special Collections at that time. There is also a considerable amount of correspondence between Dr. Van Patten and the then Director of Libraries at University of Kentucky, Lawrence S. Thompson. Most of the letters relate to the activities of various libraries, presses, journals and literary clubs. There are also discussions of book collecting and suggestions for library acquisitions. Two letters from 1952 (February 21 and March 6) make specific mention of printmaker Victor Hammer and a third (March 26) tells of an upcoming exhibit of his works.

The collection also contains a list of Dr. Van Patten's published works compiled by Jeannette Hitchcock of Stanford University and a book description for Battles and Leaders of the Civil War prepared by Dr. Van Patten.
