- John A. Lewis was a medical doctor that lived in Georgetown, KY. He gave many lectures and presentations to the Kentucky State Medical Association on diseases and treatments such as anesthesia, and rectal diseases. He also accepted private students to study under him over the course of his career.

- The John A. Lewis papers document his medical writings, speeches and lectures. Included with the collection are pamphlets, general correspondence and newspaper clippings about various Confederate veterans.
