Biography / History
Ernest and Elsie Mulligan Foley were the parents of Nancy Foley Johnson and were University of Kentucky alumni (class of 1936). Both worked at Keeneland in Lexington, Kentucky. John Bell Mulligan was a member of the Knights of Pythias and was Nancy Foley Johnson's grandfather on her mother's side.
Scope and Content
The Mulligan Foley family papers and photographs include University of Kentucky materials, plus photographs, artifacts, and other materials related to the family of Ernest and Elsie Mulligan Foley. The collection also includes materials pertaining to John Bell Mulligan and his involvement with the Knights of Pythias. These materials include correspondence, certificates, photographs, and medals.

Albums, circa 1870

The Albums series contains photographs that have been removed from family photo albums for preservation. The photographs are marked by both item number and original page number in respective album. The small album contains photographs of family members including Robert Rusk Henderson and family and also W. B. Skinner and family. It is inscribed "Presented to Bettie Henderson with the compliments and love of her uncle William W. Henderson." The album consists primarily of carte de visites that are predominantly identified on the verso. Additionally, the album has handwritten names below the photographs. The large album is inscribed, "Florence W. Skinner, Christmas, 1887" and contains photographs of family members including W. B. Skinner and family and also the Melville Robertson family. The albums contain handwritten descriptions on several of the pages. The photographs have been removed from both albums for preservation purposes but the albums and photographs have been numbered to indicate the page where the photograph was removed.
