- Biography / History
- Teacher and journalist J.J. Glenn was born in 1842 to Samuel and Mary Glenn in Lyon County, Kentucky. J.J. Glenn taught in Masdisonville, Kentucky, schools until 1884 when he became superintendent. In 1894, he declined re-election to the position, and left education for journalism, running the weekly newspaper, Glenn's Graphics. Glenn married Sallie Prewitt in 1869; they had one child, Neel Glenn.

- Scope and Content
- The J.J. Glenn papers (dated 1913-1921, 0.23 cubic feet; 1 box) contains articles, speeches, and a manuscript written about history and culture in Madisonville and Kentucky. The articles and speeches discuss elementary and secondary schools, church, and a local intellectual organization called the Kentucky Reading Circle. The papers also contain manuscript for a book on Kentucky Civil War history.
