Scope and Content
The Katharine Gould travel diary (dated 1898; 0.09 cubic feet; 1 folder) comprises a single travel diary that documents the travels of Katharine Gould and her Nana to Colorado during the summer of 1898. Both Katharine and her Nana fill out portions of the diary. Katharine and her Nana take the train from Omaha, Nebraska out to Denver to meet a family friend that will be showing them around. Nana writes about the cramped quarters on the train and the beautiful landscapes they ride by. Once in Colorado, they spend a lot of their time outdoors and partake in activities such as fishing, hiking, horseback riding, and swimming. This diary features multiple photographs of Katharine, her Nana and their friends. In the back of the diary, there are newspaper clippings from multiple different theatre shows and actresses from the Burwood and Woodstock theater companies out in Colorado.
The Katharine Gould travel diary collection is part of the Wade Hall Collection of American letters, which includes correspondence and diaries from all over North America covering the time period of the Civil to Korean Wars. The materials were collected by Wade Hall and document everyday men and women.
