KENTUCKY LIBRARY NETWORK TASK FORCE
The Kentucky Library Network Task Force was formed as a result of a
process that began in response to recommendations from the Kentucky
Pre-White House Conference on Libraries and Information Services. A
survey distributed by the Department of Libraries and Archives
identified development of a cooperative network which produces access to
information for all citizens of Kentucky as the top priority. This
priority is the first goal of the Department's Management Plan.
The State Advisory Council on Libraries and the Kentucky Library
Association co—sponsored a "Think Tank" on networking on September 25,
1981. A hearing on the "Think Tank" recommendations was held at the
annual meeting of the Kentucky Library Association. The State Advisory
‘ Council on Libraries then passed a resolution that established the Task
Force, charging the Department with appointing its members. The Task
Force was to take into consideration the recommendations from the "Think
Tank," the hearing and the Council discussion. It is to report to the
Council by March 15, 1982.
The Task Force has established the following objectives by which to
carry out its charge. They are to define objectives for a Kentucky
Library network, identify the requirements for a Kentucky library
network, describe alternative models for a Kentucky library network, and
recommend further steps toward network development. Members of the Task
Force are: Gail Kennedy, Chair; Holly Shipp Buchanan, Judith Burdine,
Beverly Bury Schneider, Tom Kirk, Suzanne LeBarron, and Ruth Atwood as a
. special consultant to the Task Force. In addition there is a 33 member
v advisory board from all areas of Librarianship. The Task Force is
publishing highlights of its meetings called NETWORK DEVELOPMENT NOTES
and is available from Gail Kennedy, Acquisitions Department, Margaret I.
