- The University of Kentucky (UK) University Senate Council Ad Hoc Committee on the Status of Women was established by on September 12, 1988, and charged with collecting and analyzing "relevant data on the status of female faculty members and administrative personnel at U.K.; to prepare an interim report for the Senate Council for January, 1989; and to submit a final report identifying problem areas with suggested solutions to the Council by June 30, 1989." UK College of Law professor Carolyn S. Bratt was the instigator and chair of the committee. Other founding members included Jeanine Blackwell, Mary Sue Coleman, Bonnie Jean Cox, Lorraine E. Garkovich, Janet L. Hurley, John Paul Jones, Gretchen E. LaGodna, Ernest J. Middleton, Jayne Middleton, Patricia E. Murphy, B. Nikitovitch-Winer, Jean G. Pival, Susan J. Scollay, and Celinda E. Todd. The Committee produced three reports with accompanying recommendations: "Let Facts Be Submitted to a Candid World" (October 20, 1990); "The Majority Report" (in collaboration with UK Women's Forum and UK Women's Studies, March, 1994); and "A Blueprint for Gender Equity" (led by Dr. Susan J. Scollay, March 2001). The committee on the Status of Women was disbanded in early 2001.
- In October 2001, shortly after his appointment as the 11th President of the university, Lee T. Todd, Jr., created the President's Commission on Women (PCW), based on one of the key recommendations from the 1990 report from the Ad Hoc Committee on the Status of Women. The PCW was charged with advising the President "on issues, policies and practices that affect women at the University of Kentucky;" and offering recommendations and proposing initiatives to "redress gender-related inequities," engage the talents of women employees, meet the needs of women students, and administer programs for the benefit of women at the university. Carolyn Bratt served as the inaugural chair. The PCW produced at least one report, "A Report on the Status of Women Faculty at the University of Kentucky" (authored by Carol E. Jordan and Adam Pritchard, September 2007). The PCW was active until at least April 2009.
- During this time, the President's Commission on Women and the Office of the Provost worked closely together. Following the PCW report in September 2007, Carol E. Jordan, Associate Provost, prepared another report for Provost Kumble R. Subbaswamy on May 2010. This report outlined trends and progress of women faculty at the University of Kentucky from fiscal year 1994 to fiscal year 2010.

University Senate Council Ad Hoc Committee on the Status of Women/President's Commission on Women/Office of the Provost general records (dated 1990-2010; 0.35 cubic feet; 1 document box) primarily comprise reports and recommendations; correspondence; and brochures that document the academic, professional, and personal lives and experiences of women faculty, students, and staff relative to men at the University of Kentucky (UK) in the late 20th century and early 21st century. Also includes a draft report from the Provost's Office on trends and progress of women faculty at the university during 1994-2010, a meeting agenda and supporting documents for an advisory group on the status of women report, an informational brochure prohibiting sexual harassment, and a directory of UK women administrators, 1989.
