JOUT THE LIBRARIES
CONVERSION UPDATE
The monographic and serials conversion project which began in Sep-
tember 1979 is well ahead of earlier projections. Our goal was to
convert at least 2,000 titles per month to machine readable form.
» In the first five months the Unit has converted a total of 17,773
titles (i.e. 928 serial titles and 16,845 monographs). The serials
project includes titles from the King periodical collection, while
the monograph conversion includes King and the Branch Libraries.
These figures do not include efforts in the Agriculture, Law or Med-
ical libraries.
COM CATALOG UPDATE
The second edition of the COM (Computer Output Microfiche) catalog,
produced in the pilot project with Solinet and Bro Dart, has been
reviewed and will be distributed beginning February 8. The review
group deemed the quality of this edition unacceptable for the fullest
distribution and promotion.
Each Department, Branch and Associate Library will have copies and
readers. The use may be limited to the staff or in some cases shared
with the patrons. A full description of the catalog, its contents
and deficiencies will accompany each copy distributed.
On February 20th, a representative from Blackwell North American will
meet with the COM planning group at UK to review the problems with
the catalog. Blackwell has been selected jointly by the University
of Kentucky Libraries and Solinet as an alternate vendor. Indica-
tions are that they can remedy the existing deficiencies. The Li-
brary will not have supplements to this edition but will wait for a
fully revised edition from Blackwell. Delivery dates are not firm;
however, January 1, 1981 is a target.
The Library now mustreaddress the implications for the catalog as of
January 1, 1980 in the light of this unexpected delay.

part-time UK student who died recently. The exhibit, which will be
on display from now through February 29, consists of two weavings
which Mark Rybarski made in a class taught last fall by Professor
Arturo Sandoval of the Department of Art.
