CRL JOURNALS ACCESS S§RVlQ§ T H E
The Center for Research Libraries G R E E N
has announced a new service
called JOURNALS ACCESS SERVICE. B E A N
This service will provide free
phctcccpy cf articles in jcurnalsj UNIVERSITY OF KENTUCKY LIBRARIES
in the fields of Science, tech- I Newsrsrrsa 7/11/75
nology, and social sciences with
an imprint date of 1970 or later, with the exception of articles
dealing with clinical medicine.
For articles not owned by CRL the requests will be transmitted to the
British Library Lending Division (BLLD), using the TYMSHARE computer
network. The BLLD will send photocopy of the requested articles
directly to the member library. The expected time—lapse on requests
to BLLD is S to 12 days.
This service will be available only to the students, faculty, and
staff of the member institutions and should not be used to fill the
needs of researchers at other institutions. The requests should be
limited to current research needs and should not be used to fill in
missing pages from journals held by the member library unless those
pages are needed for current research by a student or faculty member.
The benefits of this new service are twofold. First, the response
time should be faster and more economical because Interlibrary Loans
won‘t have to verify locations and pay the charges involved in most
transactions. Second, it will allow the library to allocate acqui-
sitions funds for other library needs and not expend those funds on
little used journals in the fields of science, technology and the
social sciences.
SOLLNET TERMINAL SQHFDUIE
The Solinet Processing Unit has now set up schedules for use of both
terminals. Free times will be between 2 and 3 p.m. on Monday and
after 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. This time is open to all staff
members who do not have regularly scheduled terminal time.
Each Solinet staff member will operate terminals approximately three
hours per day and time is also allotted to various other staff
members who will be using the terminals consistently. Terminal time
is valuable so please refrain from interrupting anyone who is op-
erating the terminals. Any Solinet staff member who is not doing
terminal work will be glad to assist you.
Thank you. y
