Collection Overview

Biography / History
Adalin Wichman (1922-2013) was a sculptor, illustrator, and artist based in Lexington, Kentucky. Wichman was born in Paris, Kentucky, and earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Kentucky. Wichman served as the advertising director for Keeneland, a horse racing track and sales venue in Lexington, from 1969 to 1989. Hymson's Tots and Teens, a local department store, also employed her to illustrate their advertisements which appeared in the newspaper, beginning in 1952. Other local department stores and retailers also hired her to illustrate clothing, accessories, children's toys, furniture, and other items.
Among Wichman's career highlights are the Eclipse Award Trophy, a trophy dedicated to someone with outstanding contributions to equestrian sport, the Foucault Pendulum Clock hanging in the Lexington Public Library, and the painting of Lucille Caudill Little, which can be found hanging in the lobby of the University of Kentucky's Little Fine Arts Library.
