- Biography / History
- Clara White was born in Lexington in either 1873 or 1874. Her father was Dr. James G. White, a professor of mathematics at the Agricultural and Mechanical College of Kentucky, later the State University, Lexington, Kentucky. He also served as the interim president of the university in 1910. Clara White attended State University, Lexington, Kentucky. From 1913 to 1918, she taught Home Economics, and between 1919 and 1936, she worked in the College of Law as a clerk and later the first law librarian. Clara White passed away on October 1, 1940, and is buried in the Lexington Cemetery.
- Scope and Content
- The Clara Warland White scrapbooks and autograph books (dated 1879-1893; 0.68 cubic feet; 2 boxes) comprise several albums filled with poems, newspaper clippings, advertisements, autographs from friends and family, and collages of illustrations. Two of them contain dedications written to Clara White, one from W.O. Sweeny (box 1, folder 1) and the other from Mary Fairhuish (box 1, folder 5).
